Building 6 at the Charles Darwin University Casuarina Campus began its life as the university library, forming an important part of the institution’s development from its earlier identity as Darwin Community College into a comprehensive tertiary education provider.
The library function emphasised accessible learning spaces, collection accommodation and quiet study zones, and contributed to the campus’s academic core.
Over time, as the university’s facilities expanded and diversified, the building has retained its role within the campus fabric, supporting a variety of university activities while demonstrating the adaptive reuse of university architecture.
Set within the larger Casuarina campus, the principal hub for higher education, vocational training and research in the Territory, Building 6 reflects the pragmatic modernist planning and campus order that characterised Charles Darwin University’s growth in the late twentieth century.
Heritage Status: Not Listed.
