DARWIN HIGH SCHOOL
Darwin High School was formally established in 1956, initially operating from a group of makeshift buildings adjacent to the Darwin Higher Primary School on Woods Street.
Relocation to the current site at Bullocky Point began in 1963, with A Block occupied on 16 September of that year. The school was officially opened on the new campus in 1966 by the Governor-General, Lord Casey.
The layout reflects post-war thinking about secondary education in the Northern Territory, favouring a dispersed campus arrangement that supports movement, outdoor learning and adaptation to a tropical climate.
A distinctive feature of the campus is the converted water tank known as "The Tank," which was repurposed as the school gymnasium and remains in use today.
Since opening, the school has been renovated and expanded on several occasions to accommodate a growing student population, yet the original modernist design intent remains evident in the planning and organisation of the campus.
