The Flynn Memorial Uniting Church at 50 Todd Street in Alice Springs was opened in 1956 and designed by Arthur Philpott, who won a national competition for its design.
The church was conceived as a tribute to Reverend John Flynn, founder of the Australian Inland Mission and the Royal Flying Doctor Service, and incorporates architectural forms intended to symbolise both spiritual aspirations and aspects of Flynn’s pioneering work in the outback.
Its thoughtful planning and expressive design reflect a mid-century modernist approach to ecclesiastical architecture, where symbolic intent and community purpose converge in structure and space.
The church remains an important cultural and religious landmark in Alice Springs.
Heritage Status: Not Listed.
