The Former Reserve Bank Building at 6 Bennett Street, Darwin was designed by the Commonwealth Department of Housing and Construction with John Scott as project architect, and completed in 1968.

The contract was let in May of that year to builder Nichols Henderson, at a cost of approximately $400,000.

The building is an excellent example of the International Style adapted for a tropical context.

Its most distinctive exterior feature is a series of brass vertical screens added to shade the large areas of glass, a detail that speaks to both the climatic rigour of the design and the institutional confidence of the Reserve Bank's building programme during this period.

Its Bennett Street address places it within the cluster of government and financial buildings that defined central Darwin's commercial core in the late 1960s.
