Katherine Town Hall, located on Stuart Highway in Katherine, was opened in March 1982 and quickly became a centre for civic functions, community gatherings and municipal administration in the growing regional centre.

The building’s design reflects late twentieth-century civic architecture in the Northern Territory, combining clear geometric form with practical spatial organisation to support meetings, events and public services.

Its presence on a main thoroughfare emphasises the role of local government in the social and cultural life of Katherine, providing a venue for festivals, forums and community celebrations.

The town hall contributes to an understanding of regional modernism in civic buildings, where functionality and community identity are expressed through straightforward planning and climate-aware detailing suitable for the Top End’s warm environment.
