The Lutheran Church, originally known as the 'Finke River Mission Church', was designed by Sir Eric von Schramek. It features a simple modernist design and was dedicated by Pastor Paul Albrecht in 1967.
Sir Erik (1921 - 1990) was the Senior Architect for the Department of Works and Housing when he moved to Darwin in 1948. He was involved in the reconstruction work following the bombing of Darwin in World War Two.
The building reflects mid-century approaches to church design, with an emphasis on simplicity, clarity of form and practical accommodation of congregational use.
Its architectural character and location contribute to the understanding of how modern religious buildings were developed in Alice Springs to serve established faith communities in a challenging climatic context.
Heritage Status: Not Listed.
