Designed by Andrew McPhee and officially opened on 11 May 1969, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alice Springs is a notable example of late 1960s modernist ecclesiastical architecture in the central Australian landscape.

The building was constructed by Sitzler Brothers, with structural engineering by Kinneard, Hill, DeRowen and Young (later Kinhill) and quantity surveying by Rider Hunt and Partners.

The design uses off-form concrete with a precast structural frame and incorporates Central Australian red sandstone, connecting the building materially to its landscape.

Its use of clean lines and light-filled interiors combined with practical climate response reflects the architectural thinking of its time, and the project received the Enduring Architecture Award at the 2017 Northern Territory Architecture Awards.
