Raffles Plaza at 50 Buffalo Court in Darwin was designed in 1984 by architect Graeme Whitford for KROMA and stands as one of the earliest high-rise apartment buildings in the city.

Its distinctive concrete construction, tessellated floor plan, spacious balconies and shared breezeways are hallmarks of thoughtful residential modernism, emphasising natural ventilation and generous civic-oriented living spaces with views towards Fannie Bay.

The building’s lofty ceilings and careful attention to climatic performance reflect the aspirations of mid-late twentieth-century residential design in the Top End.

Raffles Plaza’s significance has been recognised with the 2018 Northern Territory Enduring Architecture Award, highlighting its continued contribution to Darwin’s built environment.
