St Mary’s Primary School in Darwin was designed by Wilkins Klemm and Morrison and completed in 1967, with significant additions by Troppo Architects in 2010 that expanded and enlivened the campus.
The original building’s modernist lines and functional planning were suited to the tropical climate, with breezeway circulation and shaded outdoor spaces that support learning and community life.
The later interventions by Troppo transformed the school precinct into a more dynamic and interconnected series of spaces, enhancing student movement and interaction while respecting the original architectural language.
The campus sits within a historic educational precinct adjacent to St Mary’s Star of the Sea Cathedral and continues to serve as a central institution for primary education in Darwin.
