TENNANT CREEK NT 0860

The Uniting Church in Tennant Creek at 58–60 Paterson Street was opened in December 1966 and was designed by Mr A. A. (Fred) Soars, an engineer associated with Peko Mines in the local community.

The church exemplifies a practical modernist design typical of mid-twentieth-century regional churches, with straightforward spatial planning and modest material expression that align with its remote context and community use.

Its creation by a locally engaged designer reflects the intersection of industry, faith and civic life in Tennant Creek during a period of regional growth.

Locally, the building continues to serve as a place of worship and community gathering.
